Kira's Bio

Kira Shea Smithson, Typeset Consulting, Career Coach

Kira Shea Dalton (Smithson)

A focused, driven, quirky and adventurous spirit, Kira’s career has spanned a wide range of experience across multiple film and TV departments and the world of higher education.

During her time at DreamWorks Animation as the  Executive Floater, Kira worked short assignments for 50+ Executives, Producers, Directors and Department Heads. She also helped establish new Executive offices (including: interviewing, hiring, and training). On the few days when she wasn’t working in the production realm, Kira assisted the HR department, Recruiting department, and College Internship Manager. It was during this 3 year period that Kira’s love for mentorship and training flourished.

Since then, Kira has given numerous training sessions on networking, strategic career planning, and resume editing at universities across the country. In 2014, she was asked to join the career counseling team at Pepperdine University on a short term assignment to assist in the team's transition from a traditional career center model to an industry specialist model. During this season, she provided expert advice to staff, students, and alumni concerning resumes, cover letters, interviews, and internship and job searching strategies, based on her previous entertainment and recruiting experience.

After Pepperdine, Kira earned a prestigious role in recruiting with the Walt Disney Studios, hiring undergraduate and MBA level interns for the highly competitive professional internship program. During her time at Disney, she focussed on securing diverse talent for the marketing, distribution, sales, PR, and production divisions of the Walt Disney Studios, including Lucasfilm and ILM in San Francisco.

Kira currently serves as the Associate Director of Undergraduate Career Services for the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California (USC) while simultaneously working towards her Executive Master of Leadership degree at the Sol Price School of Public Policy (USC).

Kira enjoys advising college students, recent grads, and LA transplants, helping each one find his or her unique place in Los Angeles by polishing and presenting their best attributes and skills to a city that is always looking for something special.

In her spare time, Kira enjoys: perfecting shots of delicious foods on instagram (@cleverfoodie), trying out new recipes, reading, creative writing, hanging out with her husband, Andy, and being an honorary Auntie to lots of little babies! She loves Tillamook carmel pecan ice cream, live theatre, and fluffy puppies.
